I just took a look! whooo!
I just want to say right up-front that I don't even stand by my entirely subjective and mostly ignorant opinions about wine besides "I liked it" or "I didn't like it."
Just don't hurt me, Thomas!

(Nice exchange between you and Rogov, btw)

- Innkeeper - 05-03-2009

Yous may have noticed that I haven't posted a thing on that monsterous thread!

- Bucko - 05-04-2009

Those types of threads are only demeaning to all concerned. When you stand back and look at those threads, they seem very silly.

- winoweenie - 05-04-2009

Well they went and done did it! Them numbies got the Foodsters' hackles up higher than a giraffes. Maybe the dumbest bunch of posts I've ever witnessed since Bucko put the one of hims in shorts on our board.WW

- Bucko - 05-04-2009

Them snappy legs still have you dazzled.

- wondersofwine - 05-04-2009

Are you referring to the Finger Lakes Rieslings vs. German Rieslings thread or to some other controversy?

- TheEngineer - 05-04-2009

More details please! I need a look!

- Innkeeper - 05-04-2009

The Squires thread at wineloverspage.com which is about 12 pages long at this point degenerated into a rehash of last year's Riesling judging thread. Not to be paternalistic, but IMHO the Foodster was correcto.

- Thomas - 05-04-2009

Nothing to report Engineer.

Bucko's right. I feel demeaned by the outcome of that mess.

I'm outta there and, I suppose, I'm outta all bbs. As Bucko alludes, no percentage in it, especially for someone in the business. Can't allow my reputation to be abused at the whim of an Internet moderator.

PS: Vouvray: don't worry, I'm only a pussycat with a desire to teach the things that I learn, and that's not a subjective statement

Thanks, IK.

As you know, a certain person tried several times to make the thread personal and then when he found an opening, he got it done. Since he has access to the 'delete' button, my best choices was to close the door behind me.

- winoweenie - 05-04-2009

Dems' loss be our gain. Noone here can spell some of them words and the ones that can have no Ideer wha' they mean. WW

- VouvrayHead - 05-04-2009

"Pussycat" is just the word I was thinking of...

I actually found much of the discussion pretty interesting. I don't know anyone there (or here, frankly) enough to be at all interested in the personal nature of it, and found the argument worthwhile. Reminded me of my literary theory days.

I can see the essay title now...

The Drunk's Dialectic: Toward a new heuristic of subjective objectivity in beverage imbibment

- Thomas - 05-04-2009

Vouvray,

it was quite a discussion, and as I said, the guy I mainly had it with emailed me and told me how much he enjoyed it.

It was one needy person who has been seeking to get at me for months who found an opportunity to play his silly ego trip game.

The experience has soured me on the idea of offering for free those things I've worked years to discover and accomplish. In other words, if I'm going to have to put up with schoolyard shenanigans, I might as well get paid for it.

I am officially out of all conversations about wine online. Really. I've had my fill.

This was my first ever Internet wine board--and I loved Jerry Mead--so I'll pop in and out. But I can't do this stuff anymore.

- winoweenie - 05-04-2009

I'm with you Foodie. This is the only board I post on and it was Jerry who persuaded me to come onboard. I was on one of the others for 1 day several years back and had the experience of a rat in a cat house. I'll talk to you sometime this week. WW

- VouvrayHead - 05-04-2009

Well, I certainly understand your reasoning. And it's unfortunate that most are unable or unwilling to benefit from your knowledge. That sort of crap goes on all over the internet. What the technology offers in expediency and breadth, it often loses in civility and earnestness.

I do hope you continue to stop by here now and again; I always enjoy your posts.
