Heard earlier that a 6.0 hit just about 10:15 local time, followed by a bunch more - one at 5.0, another about 4.0 and quite a few lesser ones. They were about 21 miles NE of Paso, so hopefully not too much damage occurred. They're sure getting more than their share lately.

Hope my Sea Smoke allocation wasn't broken. WW

Wierd. I heard on the radio on my way home today that it was really a 3.8 with no reported damages.

- Kcwhippet - 09-28-2004

cg, If the person you heard that 3.8 from did any real research, instead of the talking head bit, they would have gone to the USGS site (see below) and found out that the largest one was a 6.0 with many, many smaller ones.

Reported as a 6+ down here in the sticker patch. Hopefully they dont get the amount of damage the last one left behind. WW

KC, don't be so hard on your CG youngun.' She likely ain't old enough to have learned to believe half of what you are told and none of what you hear...

I'm not being hard on her, at all. It's the person doing the reporting that's got me griping. If they did just the slightest bit of real research before they reported their stories, they might find out just how much of what they're spouting is so inaccurate. Too many of them are no longer real journalists. They're just parrots, reading what some schlock has shoved in front of them.

- Thomas - 09-29-2004

On that I agree completely. I am truly disgusted with what often passes for information on the Web and what often passes as real news on self-interested news organizations with ties to certain other interests.

Around here they always have the weatherman report about earthquakes on the evening news. Maybe since so many other natural disasters are weather related they just don't get it...or maybe that's the only person who took a science class beyond junior high.

- Thomas - 09-29-2004

You mean the weather doesn't cause earthquakes? I heard it on a reality show

- hotwine - 09-29-2004

Must have been on the CBS Evening News, Foodster.

- winoweenie - 09-29-2004

Dan personally said the quake were only a 3.2 and his source was absolutely prime. WW

Prediction, and you heard it here first: Dan Rather will soon announce his retirement, along with 60 Minutes II...

- californiagirl - 09-30-2004

Thanks KC! Finally got to watch some news last night after kiddies went to bed. Looks like the rumblin' not a stoppin'. They were also reporting on Mnt St Helens possibly arrupting.

Weather lately is amazing! Countless hurricanes in the east, and earthquakes and volcanoes out here ?!!!

- Kcwhippet - 09-30-2004

Heard on the radio today that all the hurricanes down in FL is the Almighty's way of getting back at all the bluehairs doing 17 mph in the fast lane with their right hand blinkers on. Ever notice that a lot of cars down there seem to have nobody at the wheel when you're behind them? At least they don't have some old guy in the passenger seat leaning over to blast the horn.
