Local sports writer Dan Cook passed on at the age of 81 late on 3 July. Really a fine fellow and a legend in the local media, he coined the phrase "The opera ain't over 'til the fat lady sings!" sometime back in the '60s or '70s. Probably only he could identify the occasion for which he coined the phrase.... for the rest of us, it was simply Dan-speak, and it morphed into "It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings." That was enough. Had the pleasure of meeting him several years ago. Fine gent. RIP.

Wow!! I always thought it was Yogi Berra that said that.

It certainly sounds like a Yogi-ism Bob, but Ol' Dan was the originator. Planted him today.
