Dancing, clapping, singing as ballots are cast for the first time in generations. Like the guest of honor at a wedding feast, Sweet Mother Liberty is being welcomed by the Iraqi people. Say a prayer for them, and for our troops who have made it possible.

"With polls nearing closing time in Iraq's historic election day, Iraqi election officials are reporting a turnout of 72 percent nationwide, despite a spate of attacks and threats aimed at disrupting the vote. At least 16 people were killed in a string of attacks, some of which targeted voters waiting in line to cast their ballots."

Anybody heard Dan Rather today? Yesterday morning he reported from Baghdad as follows: "The streets are like shooting gallaries; the turnout among expatriots is low, and 'officials' here think it will be low here too."

Rather's still full of sh--. Nothing's changed there. I just feel sorry for viewers who can't get Fox News. The mainstream media networks are all clones of Rather IMO.
A 72% turn-out is some kind of record for ANY democracy, let alone one being born while thugs are killing the voters. Quite a sight.

Amszingly that renegades armed with machine-guns, AK-47s', grenades, and mortars couldn't intimidate a people who are bent on determining their own fate. Thugs, Gangsters, and Bullies seem to be cower when decent folks band togeter and solidify their beliefs. May the idiot press and Mr. Kerry look at todays results and hide their collective criticisms foreever. WW
