Dan Berger seems to have fallen in love with OZ. In his Sept 29 newsletter (p.4), he tells us about a device that processes wine with evaportative perstration. What this does is reduce the alcohol in wine and increase fruit taste and structure. It is supposed to be a big improvement on the reverse osmosis method that many of you have unknowingly been subjected to.

Other new from Oz (p.2) is that Hardy is sending us a new brand called called Oomoo (aboriginal for "pleasant"). Initial offerings will be a Shiraz (surprise!) and and unwooded Chardonnay (yeah!). No word on price points.

2001 Hardys, Oomoo Shiraz, McLaren Vale, Australia, $12. A nice mix of plums, cherries, blueberries and toast stem from this deep ruby release. Very drinkable now, the wine offers decent fruit for its price point and is perfect for grilled fare; 85/87.
