Well guys I just got back from a job interview with a winery in California. Man was I disappointed. They had hyped it up as I would be selling many brands and when I got there I was to only sell one. I'm not going to mention which one it was, but suffice it to say that I haven't seen anyone mention this wine, ever, on this board.

The really disappointing thing was seeing thousands of pallates wrapped and ready to go, sitting outside in the elements. I was thinking maybe because it's the weekend that they are awaiting pick up on Monday. Yet, then I saw the writing on the shrink wrap which had dates back to March on them.

Ewww! Needless to say, if offered, I'm not going to take the job. Besides, the "good ol' boys" were pretty rude to me.

Sorry things didn't go better. The palates in the elements is something they don't have a lock on. Unfortunately, it happens all the time. That is the main reason we never visit California in the summer. It would be much too depressing.

Hope you land in a better position (that sounds like you're doing vaults in gymnastics or something). Hope you land a better position. At the Triangle Wine Experience I enjoyed chatting with some winemakers and some sales reps that were enthusiastic and knowledgable about their winery. Met Jed Steele for about the fourth or fifth time and the manager of Au Bon Climat and Qupe and various others. The Charlotte Food and Wine in April should present similar opportunities. Hmmm, if they have a major wine event in Chicago (does the Wine Spectator tour stop there?), maybe that would be an opportunity to chat with winemakers, distributors, etc. and drop off a brief resume. (I do think it would be more fun to be marketing a number of brands than one even if its a good one. Plus it might mean more commission.)

Did you have to pay for your trip out to California to interview?

Thanks guys. Guess I've never been to a wine refinery before! Only wineries!! LOL!

No, I didn't have to pay for trip. That's why I'm not upset. Got a free weekend with the family - so that was cool.

If anyone hears of a winery position in the Midwest, please let me know!
