I love technical names, perhaps that I why I am an engineer. Nothing reads as exciting to me as a German Technical manual....okay...not everyone's cup of tea but...

Anyways, having tried to follow the damn century list, I've come across a few names that I just love. I mean, how many of us do not feel a little bit more Italian when we ask for a glass of Montepulciano. It almost makes me feel operatic. I like Cabernet Sauvignon, it rolls off the tongue so well, bit it is so...well....common, ...that it does not make this list. You can say Voskihat like a Central Asia lander. Or what about Maréchal Foch. I bought that wine just for the name. My favorites though are

(1)Malvasia (sounds so damn sexy...)
(2)Tinta de Toro (instantly you are Latin..)
(3) Viognier (can you imagine James Bond asking for a bottle of this....??)

The words that raise the hair on the back of my neck are " Red Wine ". WW

Zinfandel. Think it was Willie G. in "Wine Avenger" that said it was like Sinfromhell.

One of the names I like is Rkatsitelli.

"Alsatian Gewurztraminer"... Sounds like a dog breed.

- wondersofwine - 09-25-2005

I also like Rkatsiteli and Gewurztraminer (Gewurze meaning spices and I like my Gewurz wine to have that spicy quality). Spatburgunder sounds too much like something you spit or that goes splat! Corvina sounds romantic. Gumpoldskirchner just sounds so Germanic!

Tazzelenghe which means "to cut the tongue".

Sciascinoso just for the sound of it.

Zibibbo again for the sound.

Durella which means "the hard woman".

- wondersofwine - 09-26-2005

Is Durella a "hard" (tannic) wine? You came up with some dillies Roberto.

- hotwine - 09-26-2005

I thought that was Brunella.... or maybe Brunhilde. Like the head nurse in Buckster's practice.

Madelaine Angevine. Poetry!

I like to say "Sangiovese" because all words with "gio" sound great...

and Verduzzo is fun too.
