Please allow me a moment to rave about something personal. I grew up in the small shore town of Deal, NJ. It was a wonderful place to grow up in during the fifties. The Deal Elementary School will be 50 years old this year, and somebody had the fantastic idea to hold an all-school reunion. No matter what year you graduated, you're invited. Whole families of siblings are coming home for the event. Since it was such a close-knit community we all knew each other's entire families. Retired teachers, principals are all coming! The response has been unbelievable! Everyone is very excited. I am hoping that Patti Scialfa, who attended Deal School, will bring her husband, Bruce! Wouldn't THAT be something! Unfortunately, the Board of Ed. and the Borough police couldn't bend the drug free school zone law, so there will be no alcohol served on premises. No matter...it promises to be a great event. May 17th is the date. Forgive me if this is of interest only to me. But perhaps the idea might be appealing to some of you other small town folks!

Went to my high school reunion a few years ago, in Brooklyn. My old gym teacher, who is now dean of boys, said hello and then quickly added (in a whisper) there's beer in a tub of ice located in the gym--knock twice and then kick the door once.
NY City doesn't allow alcohol on school property either, even when the kids are not there and the school is closed for the summer, which is when we had our reunion.

I'll be very surprised if some booze isn't smuggled in. Of course the event ends at midnight and the night is still young (even if the attendees aren't) and I'm sure there will be post reunion partying!

Hi Georgie. I've marked the date on my calender and promptly at 9pm before retiring I'll lift a glass for you-all. Have fun and sounds like maybe in thre custom of my tribe, a bootlegger mite show up. My grade school, NW Okla Territory Tee-pee #2, tried to get the three of us back a few years ago but, as the memory is the 2nd thing to go, we all forgot the date. Have a swinging time. I hope the Boss (Bruce) and his boss (Patti) make it. Saw Bruce perform in Charlotte, NC in December. I went to a high school reunion last summer and exchanged e-mails with a few attendees as a follow-up.

The reunion was a smashing success! More than 400 people in attendance. A whole night of smiles, hugs, handshakes and warm memories. "Kids" even brought their parents along! Everybody in town knew everybody else so it was just wonderful to see their folks as well. Many retired teachers and principals,(I'd never realized mine was so SHORT!) We wandered all around the building reminiscing. "Look at us, we're in the (gasp!)TEACHERS' room!" I even saw the guy who told me there was no Santa Claus when we were in the third grade. Good thing no alcohol was being served or I bet I'd have told him off! All in all a beautiful once-in-a lifetime event! Oh yeah, Bruce and Patti were no shows. Didn't matter a bit.

Very glad you had a great time. We have found over the past two years that reunions are much better than they are cracked up to be.

well- glad you had a good time, Georgie! I'm glad I read this post because my reunion is coming up and I'd just about decided to skip it. Now I'm thinking that I might actually go. I went to an all-girls Catholic high school, so I am sure that there won't be any alcohol, at least not in plain sight!!

You should go. I dragged myself to my thirtieth HS reunion a few years ago, dreading the whole thing. It turned out to be a great night. I'm so glad I went.
