So I was at a little in-store tasting a few days ago. One of the wines was a mid-level California Zin (sadly I forget the name) that I thought was disappointingly oaky. I said so, and the guy who was pouring told me that if it was decanted or otherwise aired out for a while that this would blow off somewhat. I've heard of that happening with other aromas, but not oak. Is this true?

Unlikely.

That's what I thought! Too bad, though. I can think of a number of wines that I'd like to blow the oak off of. (...off of which I'd like to blow the oak?)

That's the kind of stuff up with which I cannot put...

Said well, said well.

I agree. Seems like another "anything to sell it" line.

Was that a typo? Why did you put the word "off" on the title of the post?

- Thomas - 09-20-2003

SB, get in the corner and face the blackboard for that one...

- winoweenie - 09-20-2003

Was something I missed about this?ww

ww,

It appears that by removing the final word of the subject line, SB is making a statement about his lack of enthusiasm for excessive wood treatment of wines. That's much like the good doctor B's frequent statements on the same subject.
