What am I going to do now? I have all these overoaked fruit bombs in my cellar and, now that my palate has evolved...I have no tolerance for them. I need a good balanced wine to make my toes curl with my favorite dishes. Frankly, I find my tastes moving much more toward French Bordeaux and Northern Rhones for their complex and balanced flavors than the wines I have been stockpiling over the last three years.

The problem with California oakey fruit bombs is that, after you age them for several years, they are loosey goosey alcoholic goop that are no fun to drink and do not complement good food.

Oh, the horror! How do I get past all these bottles that I have been collecting?

There are several members of this board who are to blame...you know who you are (dananne, innkeeper, winoweenie, brappy, etc.). You guys are hereby commissioned to buy all my crazy, overoaked, over the top Cali juice!

You have only two choices: drink them, or give them away. I prefer the latter.

What is it that you bought? List?

And for you it goes double!

In my office around November we have a silent auction where the funds get donated to Toys for Tots. I sometimes put a bottle in that. If you are asked to donate to a charity auction, you could make a "basket of wine" and also get a tax write off too.

Several years back, I boxed up almost 20 cases of Californicated wines and sent them off to Winebid.com. I got rid of wines I no longer cared for and made a tidy profit to boot. If you have enough wine, you should consider this option.
