Mother's Day was very nice for my true love. We started out down in New Hampshire, where we went on Saturday when one of our daughters picked up her Master's Degree in Special Education. In the process we got to visit three of our four kids, and mother received nice cards and gifts from all.

On the way home we stopped at Molly Malone's Restaurant in Portsmouth (an obligatory stop) for a mid-day dinner. We both had sauteed sirloin tips bearnaise with rosti potatoes and salad. She had a glass of Bigfoot Reserve Zinfandel, and I had two glasses of '99 Clos Du Bois, Napa Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon. Both were excellent. Had heard that CDB had put out a rich, but approachable cab, but this was my first taste. Upon questioning we found out that the bottle had been opened a couple of hours earlier with the first pour. Now looking forward to popping the one in the basement. We finished the meal with two slices of apple/caramel pie a la mode. The whole thing came to $47 before tax and tip. That's why Molly's is an obligatory stop.

Last night we had a light supper of She Crab Soup from the Market Inn Restaurant in Washington, DC. This is a real treat if you happen to have a little extra coin in your pocket. They freeze it and ship it by overnight airfreight (http://www.marketinnrestaurant.com/order.htm). You thaw it in the fridge, warm it up (we used a double boiler) and serve with a shot of Sherry and a dollop of whipped cream. The soup with the airfreight adds up to around $20 a quart, but is absolutely fantastic. At least drop in and have some next time you are in the Nation's Capitol. It costs somewhat less on premises. Here in Maine we washed down the expensive soup with a bottle of Big House Red. Perfect. Mother had a wonderful day.

IK let me know the next time you and mother are in the area. I'll take you to a local place that looks like a shanty. There you will taste she-crab soup that will blow your socks off!

Will definitely look you up next time Mike. We didn't stop last time because we had our granddaughter with us. Check with Foodie for details.
