Anyone had 1999 Lakeville Ranch Sauvignon Blanc? I chose it for my brother's wedding (which is next Sunday) but just read a really terrible review of it online. Now I'm starting to freak out ... I might have made a bad choice, and I don't want to mess up for the wedding! I also might have accidentally mislabeled the glasses when I was tasting the wines blind. Any advice?

Joey, that wine has been RE-purchased on a case basis by hundreds of discriminating folks who chose it over other nice wines at lower pricing. It is dry and crisp and refreshing and shows well with food (especially the sort of menu that you and I went over). AFTER you tasted the wines blind did you not drink the rest of this out of the bottle?

Re reviews, one of our most popular wines, Librandi Ciro Classico from Calabria, got a 71 from the Spectator (who dismissed it as "an ancient style of winemaking" as if that was a bad thing) and a few years back the Italian Sommelier's Association pick for white wine of the year got a _69_ from the same morons.

Where was the review and what did they say?

Roberto

It was in the LA Times. They said it had a "naked alcohol taste and acrid aftertaste" or something like that.

Thanks for the reassurance though Roberto. I think that's all I needed. I'm sure I'm just getting nervous because the wedding is approaching.

Note two things:

A) they bought from another lot that we passed on as it had storage issues (hence the $3.99 price at another store)

B) In that same article they trashed a Valpolicell they bought from us that we sold 500 cases of in three weeks on massive repeat business and praised a cheap cabernet that we still have most of six months later.

Everything is ready, your brother will be fine (along with four other weddings this coming weekend who took that wine after extensive sampling), Roberto

PS: Are YOU coming out for the shindig? Can you bring us some food from Trio????

Based on that, I guess I shouldn't put too much stock in their opinion. I also just noticed that they misspelled several French wine names in that article (I mean, it's written right on the label, how hard can it be to read and transcribe it correctly?).

I'll see you Saturday -- I'm coming straight from the airport with my Dad, around 1:30 or so.

Unfortunately, Trio isn't doing takeout yet. Guess you'll have to come to Evanston, Roberto.

By the way, Roberto, the Champagne is divine.

Another lucky guess, eh Robo-Baby? WW
