What wine would go good with a Filet Mignon Steak?

- Kcwhippet - 03-03-2003

A good, fairly young Cabernet Sauvignon.

There are some good Southern Hemisphere cabs posted under the Australian-New Zealand-South Africa tread in the $15 range. A nice full pinot noir also goes well with fillet steak.

sleceted?

Filet Mignon being so lean, and sometime one dimensional, I wouldn't be afraid to pair it with a cab or merlot with a little age to add some complexity to the meal. With a good 'ole fatty steak, would pair with a young, tannic beast.

Gotta agree with Kcwhippet here, Cabernet Sauvignon is your best bet. Of all the food/wine pairings, steak & Cab go together like, well... steak & Cab.

Go to the "Cabernet Sauvignon" thread for some suggestions, you should be able to find something nice.

For a bargain pairing, suggest Blackstone Merlot (the California label).
