14.6% alcohol. Dark purple; frothy on rim when poured. Nose and flavor or liqueur-like red fruits with some pepper. Viscous. Lingering finish. Not as hot as one might expect for 14.6% alcohol. I reserve ratings and judgment to those more attuned to the varietal. (2001 was their first vintage of the Syrah). Great pairing with Sika venison (Thai elk), done to pink in the center with a Port-reduction glaze (the ingredients included cranberries, orange, anise, cinnamon, ginger and port). Organic sweet potato puree accompanied the meat.).

Had N.V. Korbel sparkling wine with the dessert of assorted truffles (orange, almond, coconut and cappucino mousse.)
