Nimes. An old favorite that I haven't tried for awhile.
Thought I'd bought an '03 and when I got home was suprised the '04s were out. Don't know anything about the S. France '04 vintage so here goes. Very tannic with some good earthy blackberry fruit in the background with hints of brighter red fruits. Mushroom and loamy scents prevail with hints of like flavors that add to the moderate complexity of this wine. Oh and did I say it was tannic? Needs 1 or 2 years to settle down and come together. 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache. 14% Alc/vol. Serve it at this stage with a fatty steak or cheese and sausages. $8.
