One of the first Novy wines that I purchased. Yup, there have been many purchases since this one. :-)

This wine is very full with a nose of ripe cherry and blackberry fruit. Medium ruby color but no thining or browning on the edges. I might still be early. Firm structure that supports wonderful dark fruit, lucious cherries and then a dash of spicebox and pepper on the finish. Just a touch, but boy its there. No heat.

Strange, were it not for that touch of spice and pepper on the finish I would have sworn this was a Cab. Wish I had more in the cellar to see what happens with this wonderful wine. My gut tells me that the Syrah qualities would fade and this would taste even more like a Cab with time.

This wine is a treasure. Very complex, involving, and fun to drink.

It was accompanied by spicey grilled flank steak with cheese grits, grilled vegtables soaked in spices and olive oil, and black beans.

A lot of my wine dollars are going to California Syrah these days as an alternative to Bordeaux blends.
