Hotwine, we have two different bottlings I belive.

The mourvedre I have is Cline Old Vines Contra Costa County 1997. There were about 4,000 cases produced. Which is, it appears, a larger production run than the wine you bought at $8.99.

Now that really makes me wonder about the price difference. I just might get in touch with Cline and ask them.

The 1997 Contra Costa County Old Vines Mourvedre was superb! Plenty of dark fruit on the nose and the palate. I just love those raspberries! The finish was long and slightly velvety.

Found a site at http://www.vinsouth.com/Brands/Cline/index.htm that gives suggested retail price of the Small Berry Vineyard Mourvedre at $25, so it sure looks like the local retailer screwed up. I'm sure not going to tell him! I want to be able to buy more at that price!

Jancis Robinson has raved about Cline in her book "Tasting Pleasure -- Confessions of a Wine Lover". Since she is one of the worlds leading wine aficionados, I would bet that for $16 or $17 a bottle it would be quite a yummy steal!

MrDutton et. al.; I have just picked up the 1998 Cline Ancient Vines Mourvedre Contra Costa County at $11.99 per. 3099 cases produced.
Highly recommended by the folks at the wine shop. I should be trying soon to see if I need to rush out to buy more!

If the wine is good $8-$16 shouldn't be in the thought process. I have a couple of cases of the '97 Cline Mourvedre and it works for me. Big fruit. If you haven't tried their Big Break '98 Zin you need too. In 8-10 years it will be a blockbuster.
p.s. go visit Cline. The people are great there.

I've been raving about Cline for over a year now. I am glad to read your comments, because it is nice to know that others are enjoying their wines.

Please do me a favor, though. Don't let WS review anymore Cline wines (we do want the prices to remain fair and reasonable, don't we?).
