I had intended to sit on it for longer, but I only paid $15 for it on sale at Binny's in Chicago, so I thought I'd pop it to see how the vintage, which wasn't seen as very good in the S. Rhone, was developing.

Dark ruby in color, with a nose of cherry and plum. I hate using these silly terms that are subjective and vague to the point of meaningless, but this was a sexy wine. A voluptuous texture carries the fruit across the mouth, and you really want to just roll it around on your tongue. A bit of earth on the finish. Good acidity, too. Tannins were surprisingly mild and rounded at this point. We liked it very much, and better still at the price. 14% alc. FWIW, Parker gave it an 88-90 -- to '14. For my taste, I think it's drinking very well right now, but I have no idea as to whether it'll last another 8 years. I may start popping some scattered '00s over the next year or two.

Good heavens, you paid the same thing for a CDP that I paid for a CDRV!
