Hello All, I have just tried my first Petite Sirah, a 2001 Bogle. Any other reasonably easy-to-find recommendations for further (and budget-friendly, under $20) PS exploration? Threads from previous years mention various brands, but I'd like to hear about some of your current QPR favorites.

Is the Bogle fairly representative? I found it tasty but not particularly dynamic. I suppose a $9 Bogle would be ready to drink, but could some ageing have benefited it? On other posts I saw mention of the need to decant PS; is this more applicable to the PS above the $20 price point? The Bogle is fairly tannic, but my teeth still have their enamel....

Any help in this regard will be much appreciated. For me, Bogle--like Zinfandel--has been a neglected frontier in my fit-and-start wine explorations, but I would like to become more familiar with both.

The major issue with PS is its accesibility, though that is sometimes tied to price. Parducci is at the same price point as the Bogle. At the next point is the Foppiano, and you should should give it some time, say four or five years from harvest. If you go with big boys, look for EOS. Even their regular Paso Robles bottling ($25) needs eight or nine years. If you want an interesting experiment Fife makes both a PS and a syrah. If you ever visit their winery, you can taste them side by side.

Don't know if you can find them where you are, but two that are good and ubiquitous here are the Jewel and Guenoc Petites.
