2000 Gertie & Max Gutedel Troken, Baden ($9.50 Is-Wine). Very interesting wine. Imported by Wines For Food, a.k.a. Willie G, Gutedel is German for the Swiss Chasselas grape. The label features two cute little mice sitting on a branch beneath a pink rose. Below the mice are the words, Gertie & Max. That's the whole label, and that's is why my true love had to have it. This was moments before her famous finger breaking fall on the wet sidewalk outside. So, I deferred opening the wine until memories of the night were well faded.

Surprise, surprise!!! Behind the label, was a lovely wine. Well, not a surprise. Willie doesn't import much plonk, nor does Foodie sell much (OK, any). Lemons and spice on the nose and upfront. Medium body with nutty complexity across palate, and a very pleasing finish. Matched it with grillpanned boneless pork chops with Penseys Bavarian Seasoning.
