This tasted more like a Spatlese and was a little sweet for my meal but after trying a sip of this and an Austrian Riesling I decided to order the German one (Flying Frog Cafe in Asheville--extensive wine list including super-expensive bottlings such as Petrus.)

The Riesling had peach and citrus elements, a delicate stony minerality and was barely spritzig when served. It was nice with the potato salad but a little light for the mushroom sauce on the Jager Schnitzel and the red cabbage with sour cream. (Among other wines available by the glass that I considered ordering were a Cotes du Rhone, an Oregon Pinot Noir--Dillon Vin--a bourgogne rouge/pinot noir from France.)

The Biltmore Estate mansion was lovely on the "candlelight" evening tour. Fireplaces going and two musical groups--a youth choir on the ground floor and an instrumental trio on an upper floor. Musical groups have to send CDs to audition. Reservations are needed for the Christmas candlelight tours and you need to arrive at least 30-40 minutes early to park and take a shuttle bus from the parking lot to the mansion. After the 6:00 PM tour I had to negotiate about 11 miles of winding, hilly road down from the mansion in the FOG! Rather scary.

That makes me cringe just to think of navigating that stretch of road in the fog. Bootiful jernt tho. Merry merry WOW. WW

A merry Christmas back to you WW. And happy holidays to all on this board. I'll probably be repeating the sentiments nearer to Christmas Day.
