- barnesy - 10-11-2004 1999 Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Majoratsfullung Riesling Extra Dry Sparkling German Riesling. A fine sparkling wine, but lacks a lot of the "riesling" character I was hoping for. this is the first sparkling riesling I had tried. Fruity nose with hints of toast. Same on the palate with good acidity. I was really hoping for more riesling character. It was good, but I was disappointed. I am not sure if this typical of sparkling riesling, or if its just this one. Barnesy - Thomas - 10-12-2004 Barnesy, Not sure which character you missed in it, but it's been my experience that sparkling Rieslings can be great wines, but the bubble-making process changes their characteristics, likely because the grapes are picked before fully ripened. We'll give it another pop and rereview it. Barnesy - Thomas - 10-15-2004 If it's produced in the Champagne method, yeastiness can get strong enough to overtake the characteristics that you mention. I suggest that you approach the wine as if it were a Champagne competitor and not a Riesling...you might like it better then. - jasmudger - 10-15-2004 or try an English sparkling.....
