This was from last week's Boston wine expo. I took the Ruinart Champagne tasting session. Lovely stuff but the prices for the tickets are getting pretty stiff now....

Ruinart Blanc de Blanc, NV: Slightly yeasty nose, toasted oak, very good acidity, tart, bright but still a nice creamy texture with some green apples.

Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blanc, 1998: Tiny tiny bubbles!! This is a big step up in flavors, larger toast, good balance and acidity, pale stray in color with light green tinge, chablis like, good minerality and persistence

Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blanc, 1988: Slightly deeper in color, still good if less lively bubbles, bready, toast, hazel nuts, very pleasant, great length, still good acidity (coming across to me as almost a preserved veggies but that is my cultural context...no one else knew what the hell I was talking about..) Wonderful and like a nice burg again.

Ruinart Rose, NV: Denser more serious nose, good depth, lively. very drinkable, still creamy and a good structure but instead of soprano acidity as in the BdB, has stepped purely into Alto tone territory.

Dom Ruinart Rose, 1996: Very elegant, good acidity, very smooth and sexy. I wish I had more but finished before thinking much about it.

Dom Ruinart, 1988: my fav of the night, Toffee nose, still effervescent, nice density of flavors, ripe fruit, slight nutty character, hint of Sherry, Lovely!
