$40 Blend of '98-'99, disgorged Dec. 2004
This is one of Terry Theise's small grower imports.

The nose gets me real excited. Creamy, toasty brioche. Lots of vanilla in there. Really luscious aroma.
Unfortunately, doesn't quite live up that high on the palate. Peach fuzz, a hint of vanilla, quite strong minerality, and a bit overly dry on the finish. Maybe the finish will flesh out with another year gone by, but that wouldn't make it any more than nice and somewhat interesting. No replacement for my nv Egly!

Back to Valentine's Day duties...

Just tried their NV brut for the first time. Much of your description fits for this off-the-rack offering. Although we liked it, it was quite heavy and full compared to our usual diet of Jacquesson xtra brut and VC Ponsardin. We thought the weight lent itself to use as an aperatif but only if it was easily available in half bottles. So far that's only true of one of our NY dealers and he doesn't ship to NJ.
