Intended as a sipper but much too sweet for our taste, and 'way over-priced at $10.99 (Costco). 11% alc/vol.

That's a big seller in our shop. However, like you, we think it's much too sweet to be a casual sipper. So, we recommend it as a base for Bellinis. Classically, the recipe calls for 2/3 cup white peach puree, 1 tsp raspberry puree and a bottle of Prosecco. Alternatively, we like 1 ounce Mathilde Peche Liqueur and 3 ounces Prosecco much better.

Use as a mixer sounds good.... in the same class as 7-up, Sprite, that sort of thing.

Yep, except it has alcohol, and that's a good thing.

hot, what Prosecco do you like that's similar but cheaper? We've taken a liking to Zonin and use it as a cheap house sparkler along with Zardetto. Prefer the Zonin though. We have no taste for still whites of any sort so we use the stuff with seafood, especially in summer. Winter we go back to Champagne. In Rome we were served Prosecco in a Sicilian restaurant with a ball of frozen orange ice in it. Nice aperitif.
BTW Was the Zonin the 'brut'?

- Kcwhippet - 10-08-2009

wd, Zonin is labelled as a Brut, but it sure tastes like an Extra-Dry to me.

WD, the Zonin was indeed the brut, and agree with KC, it doesn't really taste like a brut. We've bought a lot of Botter Spago Prosecco this year (about eight cases so far) at $7.79 or so per btl for use in entertaining. It's OK but of those tried recently, the one just above in this thread was the best IMO. That would be the Caposaldo Brut.
