I've been reading some of your post about Prosecco (I am glad were on the internet because I sure don't know how to pronounce it).
It seems to be very popular with you all, but I'm looking through the Total Wine cataloge and can only find one. Zardetto Prosecco, which looking back ya'll seem to think is pretty good for that price range.

Is Prosecco just not being pushed to the general public for lack of knowledge? Or is it a southern thaang?

Tankdvd I too was a late comer to this delightful bubbly being an old school Champagne feller till reading a tout from the Seattle flash. Went thru the 1st box I got from Robo-Baby in a week. tandkvd, the answer to your question is yes. Oddly, many of those who lack the knowledge are retailers, like the guy who blanketly stated to one of the people on this board that Prosecco is sweet.

No, Prosecco is perhaps the world's finest aperitif and REALLY good ones cost under $15 so I would have to conclude that Korbel, White Star and the insipid imitation of past glory that is Veuve Clicquot these days are being passed off on people with a lack of knowledge...

Let's make this clear, since Roberto and I agree on prosecco, and we answered yes and no to tand's question.

I answered yes to the lack of knowledge part of the question--meaning yes, Prosecco is not being pushed to the general public for lack of knowledge on the part of the pushers as well as on the part of the pushees. Big ad dollars can do more for the sale of a product than true knowledge, but that is the American way. The insipid White Star of which Roberto speaks will never, ever, uglify is-wine's shelves.

Thought that was the case foodie.

What through me was "Veuve Clicquot". Is this another inferior brand Prosecco, or is this one of the foreign terms ya'll use that I don't understand.

"yo no ablo espaniol" is the limit of my foreign language skills.

And while I'm showing my ignorance, there is one thing I haven't figured out, in the almost year I've had the privlidge of sampling your wine knowledge here, is "IMHO". Most were fairly easy like TN and QPR. My kids helped me with ones like LOL.

In My Humble Opinion--tand. Usually, when guys like I say it, it means the opposite...

As for Veuve Cliquot, that is a once renowned Champagne name (and wine) now relegated to the manufacturing plant, but still resonant with hordes of consumers who pay too much for what, IMHO, offers too little.

The company, Cliquot, is a near-government-sized wine and spirits (and, I think, even fragrance) company, or is it a marketing company that owns many companies--Roberto, weigh in.

Roberto must be busy but I'll chime in. Veueve Clicquot is owned by the French conglomerate Louis Vuiton Moet Hennessey, LVMH for short. Louis V has been trying to corner the market on French luxury goods for probably 20 years. Clicquot Champagne is widely available and heavily advertized, but the price at $30-$42 (depending on the retailer's mark-up) is excessive. The wine has declined substantially in quality over the last five years or so. There are many alternatives available in the $20-$40 price range.

Ah yes, I forgot about the Vuiton connection...and that Moet in the name offers the same lack of value in its Champagne.

I'll be picking up some Prosecco for Thanksgiving. As well as Villa Mt. Eden PN, and a NZ SB. Will post a ? on the SB on the proper thred.

Tried the Zardetto Prosecco tonight. We had it after supper tonight. At first I was disapointed, it was closed up all bubbles and not much structure. I think I had the wine too cold. My wife wanted it put in the freezer to get cold. After it warmed up a little we noticed the taste of apples and some citrus. It was good but I think i would like it better with food.

I didn't realize how much my wife liked the Prosecco. We got hom from our trip to the mountains to get our Christmas trees today. My wife said that she would realy like some Prosecco with some crusty bread and cheese. I then told her I had picked up another bottle for Thanksgiving, yeah you guessed it I now have to get another bottle.

BTW, we had goat cheese with the Prosecco, and it is alot better with food. Were hooked now! Guess I should have listened to Roberto sooner.
