Made from that region's Bierzo grape, and my first experience with this varietal.

Opened a bit slowly, with a nose of indistinguishable dark fruits. Some nice entry grapey, plummy, berry flavors, a nice layer of tannins, but a disappointing finish that had a rotten fruit-like quality. Hard to describe. It seemed to go away later in the evening, but I'm not sure it wasn't due to the acual contents of the bottle going away. 12.5% alc. $11 locally. I've picked up some other Mencia wines -- I'll pop a different one this weekend to get another example.
