"Throw the switch and see if it smokes...."

Had to make sure everything was in order for tomorrow, so tonight we tried the pork loin, garlic mashers, & corn on the cob, followed by fresh strawberry shortcake. All is in good shape. Didn't have a worthy Burg so I pulled a '98 Duboeuf Fleurie. Fruity, floral, and close enough to a jammy Burg to go nicely with the pork. Followed up with Fonseca Bin 27 to accompany the strawberries. Very nice.

We went a much more traditional route. Had a wonderful whole, bone in, unsliced, ham from right here in Bangor, ME (http://www.beansmeats.com/hams.htm). That's W.A. Bean vice L.L. Anyhow we had it baked and glazed with baked sweet potatoes and spinach. Washed it down with a couple of Chateau De La Chiaze Brouilly. Eldest daughter and family enjoyed it and we all had a nice Easter. Hope you did too.

For the main event today, I chose a 1998 Gentil "Hugel" from Alsace. Enough acidity to handle the pork loin without overpowering the asparagus and garlic mashers. Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Muscat and Sylvaner are apparently all represented in the blend.

The Hugel "Gentil" is quite nice. Good acid and quite refreshing. It was a warmup wine in an Alscatian tasting I went to last month. Good stuff for 10 bucks.
