IK,
I finally decided to try one of your suggestions last night. After having a delicious Sancere on Saturday night (La Moussiere) I decided to try a kiwi last night...just for comparisson. Following your advice I picked the 1999 Villa Maria. Wow...It was similar but different. Very balanced, delicious ripe fruits that suprise you but end up coddeling you through your meal. The hint of hay brought me back to the stable I used to work in to pay for my horse riding lessons as a kid in Australia.
Do you have any other kiwi sb suggestions...I'd love to try 'em

Thanks Blue. If you go back a year on this thread you will find my review of the 1999 Riverside, Hawks Bay (11-02-00), and RAD's review of the 1999 Selaks, Marlborough (05-05-01). Have not tried the Selaks yet, but have one in the rack awaiting a good opportunity.
The '99s may be getting hard to find. Not that there is anything wrong with them; SB has the best legs of any dry white (I said dry, you riesling lovers). However, marketing being marketing, the '01s have already made their appearance. The October edition of the Southern Hemisphere Wine Center's Newsletter has six different '01s on their back cover, ranging in price from $11 to $15.

My shop had me pick up a Villa Maria Riesling. Haven't poped it yet, should be good.

Other widely distributed and generally solid NZ SB producers to check out: Nobilo, Stoneleigh and Brancott (haven't tried the '01s yet).

In Dan Berger's Vintage Experiences this morning he recommended the following '01s: Huia, Marlborough ($16), Alpha Domus, Hawks's Bay ($14), and Lake Chalice, Marlborough ($16).
There must be a never ending supply of Kiwi wineries because none of the above were included in Southern Hemisphere's recommendations. The '01s they're touting are: Omaka Springs ($14), Thornbury ($15), Konrad & Conrad ($15), Lawson's Dry Hills ($13), Zenith ($11), and Sherwood ($11).
