I would love to know if any of you Porto lovers out there are going to end your New Years Eve celebrations with a special bottle of Porto. If so, what are you planning to open up?

- Kcwhippet - 12-20-1999

Going with the Barros 20 Anos, along with some stilton and walnuts. May not be one of the all time greats, but we like it (and the price).

For New Year's I will open a 1994 Niepoort LBV after dinner--perhaps with cheese and nuts, but me, I need nothing else to sip that splendid stuff.

For Christmas I will open a Blandy's Bual 10 Yr. Am thinking of having it with a chestnut/hazelnut soup.

And yes, I realize the Bual is a Madeira....

Roy, we will be tipping 63 Grahams and 70 Taylor. I know that the Taylor is not ready yet, but it is SO GOOD right now. How about yourself, Mr. Port Guru?

believe it or not I will NOT be doing a vintage Porto as I am saving a very special one for a few weeks from now. Instead I will have to suffer with a Barbeito Malvasia 1900 which should make for a nice dessert.

Roy

PS...enjoy the Taylor!!!

Unfortunately, I don't have access to a fully aged port. I was considering opening a '92 Fonseca, but if that is insanity, please let me know! Bucko, the Taylor sounds great... let us know how it was..

The 1970 Taylor was stunning as usual. Loaded with rich, lush, complex fruit, a soft mouthfeel, and an aftertaste that goes on forever. Another 10 years should peak this one out.

So are you guys buying the 97 vintage Ports and laying them down?? What are your thoughts on the 97 vintages??? Right now they are a good price, and I am thinking I have more time than money....<grin> I realize that I am looking at hanging on to this bottle for many many years...but heck, its not like I am going anywhere. (unlike some of you...I am still young. just kiddin')

and just for the record....I also had port and stilton to help me celebrate my New Years.
