Here in the late 1970s, Marlborough produced Sauvignon Blanc, among other varieties, which led to confidence that New Zealand could produce exciting wine. Becker Vineyards Fume Blanc 2008 Texas, Texas Hill Country
Tasting Notes: The aromas include pear, herbs, cucumber, and toast. The palate reveals more layers of flavor, including spiced peach, melon and citrus (tangerine, lime, lemon). The wine has good body, somewhat creamy textured, with a very dry finish.
On a personal note, I have visited the winery numerous times, & spoken with their winemaker Russell Smith concerning this vintage of their Fume Blanc. He feels that it is his greatest white wine effort to date, & we concur. The complexity of this Fume Blanc impresses me every time I taste it. It's our favorite Texas white wine currently avialable on the market.

Healdsburg Ranches Unoaked Chardonnay 2007 California, Sonoma Valley
Tasting Notes: "The 2007 Healdsburg Ranches Chardonnay represents a new direction in winemaking. Fresh and fruity, the stainless steel fermentation allows the varietal character to show through, while the malolactic conversion creates a larger “mouthfeel”, as they say. Citrus fruits including grapefruit, lemon, and pear shine through with unexpected panache. More subtle aromas such as honey, kumquat and fig dance across the palate. And the long lean finish—accented by the powerful acid—lingers on the tongue. It’s poetry."HRW

Lafond Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay 2005 California, Santa Rita Hills
Tasting Notes: Located in the western Santa Ynez Valley, the Santa Rita Hills AVA is an ideal environment for growing intensely flavored full-bodied Chardonnay. This AVA is distinguished by a very cool and long growing season created by a convergence of unusual geography in this part of California. During the summer, heat rising from the Mojave Desert 90 miles inland and the eastern boundary of our unique east-west system of mountains and valleys draws in cold air from the Pacific Ocean 15 miles to our West.
A lovely note of oak wraps around creamy apple & pear notes. This wine is a good choice to pair with many cows' milk cheeses such as Brie or Camembert, and as a nice surprise, the fantastic washed-rind triple-creme Cow Girl Creamery Red Hawk. Richer foods such as roast chicken or whole farm raised striped bass are also ideal pairings. Regularly $22 per bottle, we offer it On Sale for $14 per bottle, $149 for a 12 bottle case including Free Ground Shipping on 6 or 12 bottles.
